OK, this disease thing? Is really getting on my nerves. Not only do we have to be aware of standing puddles and stuff, because there's West Nile in Southern Ontario - and joy of joys, we live right next to a forest populated by thousands of crows - but now there's a SARS scare here too. Chris and all residents in the Ottawa system got an urgent e-mail yesterday asking whether they'd been on duty at the Ottawa General Emerg on certain days.

Seems a nurse on duty that day was in contact with a lady from the Toronto region, who is now suspected of having SARS. So far the nurse has no symptoms, and they're not sure the patient had SARS either, but in the meantime... the nurse is in isolation, everyone who has "the following symptoms" is urged to stay home, and the rules re. visitors and nonessential personnel in hospitals are getting more and more stringent.

I wonder what it'll be like if we actually get a real-live confirmed case here. Not that I'm against all the precautions, but it's rather frightening that all of this is coming down over a contact with a suspected case.

::sigh::

I have to admit that the West Nile thing is something I totally ignore, since the seriousness of it for a healthy adult is essentially nil. If I were the mother of small children, it would be different.

SARS, on the other hand...well, since it's more serious than they thought it was, it's beginning to concern me a bit. But please. Panicking over it? Not going to help.
