Sure hope my new Palm & keyboard work better than my old Palm & keyboard. The keys stopped working a few weeks ago, so that I kept losing my u, i, o, and p for longer and longer periods of time, until they finally just crapped out altogether. And let me tell y, the Englsh langage ses a hell f a lt f thse letters; tryng t decher ntes wtht them s bldy cnfsng.

Took Chris' keyboard, which for some inexplicable reason, left me without j, k, l, and ; instead. Which is much, much easier to decipher, athough it's sti somewhat amusing if you're writing about pubic administrative aw.

And don't even get me started on trying to decipher the notes I took the day that we had a Globalization guest speaker who spoke on English but had half his Power Point slides in French. I'm actually rather proud of myself that I'm getting most of it, but it's still somewhat frustrating, overall.

In other news, ::sigh:: I was afraid this would happen. I'm up to my derriere in work, so what better time to get sucked drawn into a new fandom? Although it's not really new, because I've read all the books and seen all the movies, but I'd stayed away from the fic. Until now.

Harry Potter fic, that is. I had heard somewhere that JK Rowlings was, overall, flattered that her books had spawned a large fic following, but somewhat squicked at the idea of so many of the fics being rather pornographic. Which, ew. Nothing against porn, but personally... I don't care that almost all of the R+ fics either star the adults (eg teachers) or the 'kids' as grownups... it's still kinda icky.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Irrational squick. It's like blue cheese - I've been told it's marvelous. I know lots of people like it. They're welcome to it. I'll just... sit over there, 'k? Same as I'll sit over there while other people read'n'write M*A*S*H*Slash, because I watched that show when I was a kid, and the characters were grownups, and so now it's a bit like reading about your parents having sex.

(Yes, I know Hawkeye Pierce and BJ Hunnicut and Father Mulcahy are cute, OK? I never said this made sense.)

Anyway, I stayed away from HP even as many of my flist were linking to the stories, and I figured it would be like LOTRiPS: I would remain resolutely steadfast, nigh-virginal in the midst of the gleeful fic-orgy raging around me.

Alas, no. My doom has been [livejournal.com profile] crack_van, which pointed me towards a couple of HP sites and, after I got over shrieking with hilarity (and dismay) over oodles of unintentional badfic, I found some that were pretty good. And, as a bonus, non-porn. Like this one, which stuck with me for some reason:

Witness for the Defense.

::shrug:: I thought it was cute, anyway.

Back to deciphering my Globalisation notes:

- est tres simiaire a 'Accord nordamericain sauf qu'i n'a pas du secretariat binationa
- putot, un secretariat nationa s'occupe de a mise en oeuvre dans chacun des deux pays
- es deux pays n'ont recu aucune communication de pubic usqu'a ce our, et
- usqu'a maintenant, es deux pays on organize stuff, no compaints

Man, my new keyboard better work.

BWAHAHAHAHA.

I feel like HP fandom is a huge pyramid scheme, with everyone trying to recruit new members.

Psst.

If you want some good, non-smutty HP fic, I recommend Sugarquill. They try to be "family-friendly" and thus don't publish smut.

Go forth and read!

LOL - why do I have an image of you reaching in to a trenchcoat and handing me the rec on a little piece of paper and murmuring "go forth and read" while glancing over your shoulder to make sure The Man isn't looking?

Thanks for the link - I think I'll stay a while :)
