OK, here's the interview thingy from [livejournal.com profile] tobiascharity. And instructions from her lj: If you want me to interview you--post a comment that simply says, "Interview me." I'll respond with questions for you to take back to your own journal and answer as a post. Of course, they'll be different for each person since this is an interview and not a general survey. At the bottom of your post, after answering the Interviewer's questions, you ask if anyone wants to be interviewed. So it becomes your turn-- in the comments, you ask them any questions you have for them to take back to their journals and answer. And so it becomes the circle.

And TC - you're tough, girl. You actually made me think about these.

1) What is the most difficult part about homeschooling your children? The best?

Most difficult? The isolation, for them and me. Trying to get around that by getting out and meeting other homeschoolers.

The best? The fact that you can go at your child's pace, and follow their interests. They want to learn about castles? You can do that for days, and incorporate reading, writing, art, history, religion, etc. with no worries about 30 other kids who don't want to learn about castles twiddling their thumbs while you do that. And no worries that your kid will have to twiddle his thumbs for months while the rest of the class studies things he has no interest in.

2) Is Chris really that hysterically funny?

He's funnier :) :) A lot of his humour is visual, so it's not shareable. He's particularly good at bringing us from the sublime to the profane in a rather jarring, but totally hilarious way. Hence, I've dubbed him Bathos Boy. Makes him a good foil for me, Angst-Girl :)

3) Any plans for Ed!Fic in the future? (::crosses fingers::)

Uh... no, actually, not right now, but hey, that's an idea... hm... he does seem to have crept into my fic rather insiduously.

Hm... ::shriek!! plotbunnies falling from the sky!!::

4) What do you like best about Canada?

Probably the fact that we're boring. And relatively laid-back. We can get pretty wingy too, but it seems like a lot of the stuff people froth at the mouth over south of our border just isn't that big a deal here. Gay Scouts? Yeah, whatever. Prayer in the schools? Um... why don't we just do a reading from a different religion every day? And so on.

Not to say that everybody gets along here or that Americans are nuttier than we are, but it seems like the wingier POVs just don't get as much play here. We're probably just too busy digging our cars out of the snow to get too worked up about anything else :)

Oh, and I'm a big fan of socialized medicine and gun control too.

5) What fics are you currently working on? Ever thought about fandoms other than Law & Order? (I cheated.)

The only fic I'm actually working on is Promises to Keep, set in season 7. On the back burner... gosh, I just realized I've almost cleared it. At one point I had about 10 things there.

  • There's a bunch of unrelated scenes that hope to some day be a Lennie-POV set around Corruption. As in, how did our erstwhile detective feel about being accused of stealing evidence? Unfortunately I was mostly writing this with Leslie's encouragement, so...
  • Then there's a "5 years post-Pretty Picture" that, if I ever finish it, hopes to not be dependent on Pretty Picture. As in, not a sequel, just in the same universe, after Deborah's death and Lennie's retirement. Considerably less grim than PP. I don't know if I'll ever post it anywhere even if I do finish it. I probably will share it with a reluctant-to-publish ficwriter I know who is actually also working on a post-Deborah Rey piece that I termed HappyFutureRey(tm), in contrast to my DrearyFutureRey(tm).
  • Then there's the sequel to Confession. No, I'm not working on it. I did, once upon a time, but it's been lying dormant for about 8 months now and refuses to move when I poke at it.
  • Then there's Order In the Court, a silly piece for the sake of silliness. Summary: how do our erstwhile heroes (Lennie, Rey, Anita, Jack, Abbie) keep from dying of boredom while they're stuck in a courtroom listening to a judge pontificate? And what rhymes with Briscoe?

As for other fandoms, I did write some X-Files ages ago, but never published and now can't find the half-finished stuff I wrote. Other than that... I don't watch enough TV to get into the characters enough to write. Some day, probably. I thought of writing HLOTS fanfic, but the fact that the show was cancelled makes me leery of that. Not enough of a community left, which is too bad.

I like what you said about homeschooling...how the kids can learn their own thing. That's cool.

Want to interview me? :)

Whee! OK, here goes:

1. What do you hope to do with your PhD? Do you hope to remain in academia, or is it a stepping-stone for something else?
2. Who's your favourite character on each of the L&O's, and why?
3. How did you cope with GAD before getting help for it? (alternative, if that's too personal or difficult to describe) What's your family like?
4. Alisia D. Crede: how did she come into being, and what was it like being half of her?
5. Describe how you met one of the people on lj who you know in real life.

me?

(Why yes, if my friends all jumped off a bridge, I would, too. I'd just make sure to bring my parachute.)

OK, here goes:

1. Why are you going into law? And what would you do if you weren't going into law?
2. Why did you expand The Ham Sandwich?
3. What's your family like?
4. What do you get out of writing/reading fanfic? And are you currently working on anything?
5. What do you think of the death penalty? And how does that influence how you are approaching your current assignment regarding the DP? Does it?

You know, it's funny, when I read these and snarkhunter's questions over, they sound rather confrontational, not conversational. Maybe it's the interviewing format or the fact that they're a bunch of questions all bunched together, who knows.

In any case... take them as curiosity and a desire for communication, rather than "Explain Yourself!! NOW!!"

Especially that last one :)

hee! Well, for what it's worth, I didn't think my questions were confrontational.

Me?

Hm.... let's see...

1. In what ways is New York City better than your hometown? Worse?
2. Why did you choose a women's college? What's the difference between a women's and a coed institution? (beyond the obvious :)
3. What was the evolution of IAS like? Did you wake up one day and say I want to write a 700+ page novel, or did it start out as a vignette?
4. If you don't go into law, what would you like to do instead?
5. If you could have one L&O-related mystery cleared up, what would it be and why? (anything goes - did Danielle Melnick survive, did the little girl in Killerz ever kill again, what was Adam Schiff's wife's name - anything).

OK, off we go again! These are kinda fun to make up, actually :)

1. How did you and H meet?
2. Why do you like hockey? What do you get out of it?
3. How did you get into fanfic and which story did you enjoy writing the most?
4. What was it like coming out to your family? Or, as I did in snarkhunter's interview: If that's too personal, what's your family like?
5. What do you like the most about SVU? The least?
