pot pourri
Jul. 14th, 2005 09:58 pmNo, I don't do the label thing with my entries. Yet. It intimidates me.
- Still reconstructing my house, which at least is somewhat cleaner now than it was. Shelves and pictures and knickknacks are slowly, slowly going back up, and crap baskets will hopefully start being de-crapped tomorrow.
- The boys are registered for Cooking Camp next week. Yay!
- I'm picking out my courses for next year, and it looks like I'll be able to only go in on Mondays in the the first term. So if I can work out some sort of co-homeschooling thing with Anne and/or Marie, where I take their kids part of one day and they take mine part of Monday, things should be OK next year.
- Spanish teaching is going more slowly than I had hoped. Daniel has no problem with it, and in fact, I should probably start responding more to his interest in it instead of trying so hard with Justin, who is rather reluctant about the whole thing. Maybe if Justin sees Daniel learning, he'll be more eager to pick up a bit too. It's a nice theory, anyway.
- Saw
sugarkane_59! Dropping into town for her massive move, she stopped by my (messy) home and had dinner with us. I'm endlessly impressed with her moving to another country.
You know, it's neat seeing people in person after you've gotten to know them on lj. And seeing three lj-folks in one week is really, really cool :) :) :) - Finished my fic and put it up on fanfiction.net, and you know, even when you're not writing for reviews, it's still very nice to get them :) It's like icing on the cake. Except, it's not, for me, because I often scrape icing off real cakes. So forget that analogy. Um.
Central messsage: I got some nice reviews and was very happy :) :) :) - Started to read A Wrinkle in Time to the boys. Daniel is liking it way more than I thought he would, and Justin is slow to warm up but then doesn't want me to stop reading.
- It's hot. It can stop being hot, any day now. Except according to CBC weather, it won't. Bugger all.
- Chapters has assured me in breathless prose that my pre-ordered Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince is in, I can pick it up July 16 at 12:01am, and they will essentially give me their first-born if they fail to have my extra-special precious copy there for me as soon as I pelt into the store demanding it.
... and here I was thinking I'd probably pick it up during the D&D game on Saturday, unless I got sucked into lj or something. Yes, I'm very excited about it all. Biggest book release in the history of the universe, more popular than Gutenberg, and all that jazz. But... it's just a book, right? It doesn't, as my mom used to say, come with a bidet, does it? - Actually I just realized I probably won't pick it up Saturday after all, as I have a choir rehearsal from 1-3. Damn.
- I have the oddest craving for banana-flavoured corn flakes. Huh?
- I keep feeling like there's something else big that happened today. But I don't know what.
- Crap!! I remember what it was!! I paid something over the phone with my Mastercard today and realized it expires 07/05. I probably tossed out my replacement card, mistaking it for one of the 60,000 incentives and entreaties and bribes they send me every month to change my other credit card balances to Mastercard. Which I might be tempted to do, if I had another credit card.

I'm envious in so may ways
Date: 2005-07-15 07:08 pm (UTC)wish I knew what that felt like, I try not to write for reviews but you know I'm just too much of a ham and like you say it so nice to get reviews, but then again I just can't imagine writing HP fic, least wise not all grown up HP fic.
But... it's just a book, right? yes, and considering some folks read at the speed of light, but are up to their axels in work, it will just have to wait. It will be just as good a read a few days and or weeks from now, don't you think?
Cooking camp? Sounds fun for them, but I'd hate to be the camp counsellors, I'd be terrified of having a bunch of youngsters, burning themselves or getting cut or what not.
I really envy you getting to meet lj friends in person, it's one of my fondest dreams. I think I'd love to take a road trp and just go see a bunch of folks I've met online.

Date: 2005-07-15 10:21 pm (UTC)It's not really camp camp, though. It's at Loblaws, in the Community Kitchen, 3 hours every morning next week. They've already gone to do the short cooking classes, and they both really liked them.

Yeah, me too :)
