OMG!
That was one of the best birthday presents I've ever had. Chris had tried to get us a babysitter so we could go on a date, but as we really only have one regular one and she was busy, no such luck. So instead he proposed a family theatre trip to see Narnia: LWW, which I actually had been kinda hoping to do tonight anyway. I'm such a mom.
Gorgeous. The casting was excellent - Lucy was adorable, the kid playing Edmund did sullen like nobody's business, and the White Witch, whom I'd seen in pictures and thought was utterly and totally wrong, was utterly and totally right. Tumnus was wonderful too. The whole thing was beautiful.
The only quibbles I had were that there were a few places, mostly at the beginning, where the pacing seemed a little slow (though it may have been that it was so true to the book that I was thinking "Yeah, OK, skip to the next exciting part") and that Aslan didn't seem as... magnificent as he's supposed to be. What with, you know, being God and all. Liam Neeson's voice wasn't quite Lordly enough or deep enough of something. I told Chris it was too bad they couldn't have used someone with a really resonant deep voice like, say, James Earl Jones. Because that probably would've made his appearance more universally giggle-worthy; as it was our family had a snickerfit anyway when he appeared, as Chris whispered to Daniel "Mufasa!!", Daniel passed it on to me, and I passed it to Justin ;)
Anyway. ::happy sigh:: Minor quibbles. Overall: squeee!!!

Date: 2005-12-24 05:05 am (UTC)I rather liked it being Liam Neeson instead of James Earl Jones because from what I've been told, Aslan is supposed to be like Christ instead of God, so I can take Liam being like Christ. Or something.
That, and dude, type-casting James Earl Jones as a lion? He's already been Mufasa, so I say give someone else the chance to be a kickass lion. :D
But yes, this movie was so awesome. The way they did the Lucy-Tumnus friendship/interaction was so lovely. It makes me want to write Older!Lucy/Tumnus romance fic, it does. *blush*

Date: 2005-12-24 07:09 am (UTC)And Lucy/Tumnus, lol, I am ashamed to admit I've read quite a few of those fics now... I keep going back and forth on it. On the one hand, it's very cute, but on the other, I know that they really are just meant to be very close friends, and really like them that way.
I'm glad you and you family liked it Cirocco. I love that movie. :)

Date: 2005-12-24 03:59 pm (UTC)Yeah, he's supposed to be in a analogous kind of way (god incarnate, Son of the Emperor-Beyond-the-Sea, dies for somebody's sins, comes back to life, brings the dead back to life, etc), but in terms of how he's written he's much more like God, IMHO. Shining, almost too beautiful to look at, deep and glorious voice, infinitely wise and kind and terrifying, otherwordly... and I didn't quite see that in the movie.
But yes, this movie was so awesome.
Absolutely :)
