Edit: Yowch, just realized the Toronto thing could be seen as a very tasteless mocking of the recent shooting in Toronto. Nothing to do with it. I've loathed the city for almost twenty years. Nothing to do with guns or violence; it's just too damn big.

I just thought it was funny that you repeated Toronto.

Hee.

I really hate Toronto. It's like Ontario's sucking maw of sprawl. Two hours before you reach it, around Whitby to the West and Hamilton to the East, you hit cityscape and that's it - the towns just blend, one into the next, with no green space between them. And you realize, as you keep driving, that with every minute you keep driving in, that's another minute you'll have to drive to get the hell out. For me Yonge & Dundas does not conjure images of fabulous shopping, but the hideous realization that if I freak out absolutely and need to, need to, need to Get Out NOW, I will just have to hold in my freak because it's at least a two-hour drive before anything resembling non-Toronto appears to soothe my eyes.

Coruscant? Reminds me of Toronto.

I will say the Gay Pride Parade is cool though. Second largest in the world, I've heard. And the Gay Ghetto's pretty neat too. You can see it any time you watch Queer As Folk (US), which was set in Pittsburgh's Liberty Ave, but filmed in Toronto. They did a really cute ep once where the gang go to Toronto for an AIDS fundraiser, and as they walk through Church and Wellesley, they're all looking kind of thoughtful, and one of them says, "Is it just me, or does this look a lot like Liberty Avenue?"

"Yeah..."

Pssst, [livejournal.com profile] lalejandra posted HLOTS fic. Haven't read it b/c I'm not familiar with the fandom, but I find Lale to be a reliably awesome writer, so I'm guessing it's something you'd enjoy.
