Lazy Saturday around here. Went to Justin's ballet class, then went to visit Guy and drop off some things - the cards that the boys made for him, and pictures of [livejournal.com profile] ninja_kat and Jacob, whom he hadn't seen yet. Passed on love and messages from the boys and Chris, and from [livejournal.com profile] ninja_kat, my aunts Dory and Mary, and my cousin Ingrid. Also talked to Guylaine for a bit. They've got the same palliative doctor my mom had, Dr. Coulombe, requested specifically by Guy because of how wonderful she was with my mom. Incidentally, the same doctor is helping take care of Marie's mother, who is also terminal right now. Looks like Daniel and Justin will have even more in common with Nick and Oliver, Marie's kids, with whom we often go to museums.

This sucks.

Small Family

Justin and Chris holding Jacob.

Three sisters, three cousins ([livejournal.com profile] ninja_kat and both of her sisters had boys all within one month of each other).

The picture on Daniel's card to Guy. Those are glitter hearts and crosses.

I asked Daniel what he wanted to say to Guy, and he immediately sat down and wrote:

You will go on. "To a spirit, a life-time is the time to take a single breath." - one of Buddha Shacamoodie's (sp) students. I will always love you.

Justin's picture. To the right are Guy and Justin, to the left are souls. Guy's soul is in the top left-hand corner, in blue and yellow, and my mom's is the blue & yellow soul closest to him. There is some significance to the colours, but I didn't really understand it. Apparently it was something that they learned at Buddha Buddies.

In far happier news, we finally watched The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which I totally loved and want to own despite the many large & small changes from the book & TV series, but which made me wish even more for the TV series. I wonder if it's out there on DVD.

::checks::

Hm, yeah, it is. Cool!

Favourite change: Marvin. TV Marvin was exactly how I imagined Book Marvin. You know. Gloomy looking. Long faced. I loved him.

But: Movie Marvin! Almost, but not quite, entirely unlike my idea of Marvin. I nearly died laughing. Cover him in plush and he's cuddly. And give him a voice by Alan Rickman... just too funny.

I also think I fell in love with the movie the moment I heard the opening music, straight from the TV series:

The Eagles, Journey of the Sorcerer.

Oh, and: remember Chris' amputated fingertip? Well, it's doing better now. The picture doesn't look that bad, but please do remember that he chopped the piece off February 15. So, like, over two weeks ago.

The card got me all choked up. So beautiful!

And I too liked the recent Hitchhiker's Guide movie, esp. Marvin. Casting Alan Rickman as the voice was a stroke of pure genius.

Wasn't it? I nearly died. And having been subjected (in a positive way) to his voice as Professor Snape ad nauseum in the last several months (my kids being even bigger Harry Potter fans than me) it was just priceless, hearing him put a whiny, depressed tinge in his sarcasm. Sharp contrast from the steady diet of snide sarcasm I'm used to. And my kids loved it too :)

It was definitely a welcome fluffy interruption to the gloom'n'doom :)

Death is a hard thing for anyone to face. For your sons to be facing it at such a tender age, and with such wisdom, will serve them well in their lives ahead. They will be the ones their friends turn to, when they are adults, and death comes to interrupt the joy of life. And they may not have all the answers (because no one does) but they will be able to say "Yes. This is a hard path. It is a sad path. But I've been down this path. And I survived saying goodbye, and you will too. The love of friends and family is what gets you through."

I'm holding you all in my heart.

I hope so. I just wish so much that they didn't have to. Chris said at one point that it's so hard, you do so damn much to protect your children as much as you can, try in every way to make life good for them... and then shit like this happens that you have no control over. And then it happens again.

"Yes. This is a hard path. It is a sad path. But I've been down this path. And I survived saying goodbye, and you will too. The love of friends and family is what gets you through."
God, I hope so.

Thanks.
