I'm not religious and I'm not sure I even believe in the existence of God, but here is a prayer that I found on
sangerin's lj. I find it a propos on this day.
A Prayer for All who Suffer from the Events of September Eleventh
by Don Talafous OSB, one of the Catholic brothers at St John's College, Collegeville, Minnesota.
Loving God, in this tragic time that affects all of us, we come before you, our Rock and our Refuge. We ask that everyone who is harmed in any way by the devestating events of Tuesday, September eleventh, be held in your love.
We ask that your peace enfold all who have been killed, that your strength and comfort be with all the injured and mourning. We ask that compassion and love prevail over our anger and frustration.
We pray that the magnitude of this disaster will somehow bring victims, their family and their friends new life. We pray for children bereft of parents and care, for children whose innocence has been assaulted by these events.
We pray for those who were driven to these actions.
We ask that this horrendous event bring us all to more concern for the injustice and hurt that precipitate such actions. We pray that this disaster impel human beings everywhere to work more ardently for peace and justice.
We ask that your Holy Spirit guide our nation and all of us in our reaction to this tragedy. Be with us all, above all with the mourning and suffering.
We ask this through the Savior, Jesus Christ, who blesses those who mourn and those who hunger and thirst for justice. Amen.
