  • Ann Coulter, talking about John Edwards.

    Yeah, apparently calling him a faggot "wasn't meant to be insulting to gays".

    Um. Yeah. O...K...

    [livejournal.com profile] mynuet, didn't you just deal with some chickie who was also baffled as to how you could consider her use of the word "gay" as insulting to gays instead of just a general-purpose swear word?

    ::facepalm::

  • And this one's not as funny as George Takei, but it still got a chuckle from me:

    Bill Clinton responds to Ann Coulter's comments on his sexuality.

    Edit: By the way, no, I don't think that's actually Bill Clinton's response, just somebody on Letterman using his name & face & um... special fame? to (rather meanly) put down Coulter. My bad, I still found it funny.

Yeah, sure did. And a girl somewhere in the midwest got suspended from school for hatespeech for using the "that's so gay" thing (although the kids taunting her for being a Mormon were not disciplined in any way, so it's kind of an ambivalent kinda feeling on that one). *sigh* Apparently she was supposedly trying to reference that someone from Grey's Anatomy went to rehab after calling a costar a faggot, but failed miserably. The VRWC people all seem to be up in arms and condemning her, but a few are also giving the press the fisheye for the coverage slanted as "OMG, what a totally evil person!" as opposed to "It was a botched joke."

VRWC?

LOL yeah, I'm sure I've heard the "botched joke" line before, now where could that have been...

It's funny, I don't know Ann Coulter from a hole in the wall, other than she keeps popping as the source of somewhat offensive attacks on those who disagree with her, but I have to say, following links re. her today... wow, some of them were pretty knee-jerk. There was a link to a video of her "throwing a tantrum" on live TV and I couldn't believe it but I actually agreed with her actions. She was spouting I don't even remember what totally disagreeable POV, and she kept getting interrupted and shouted down by the other side, until she finally stopped talking and very politely said something like, "Do you need me here at all?", waited a few minutes, said she was going to leave, waited some more (all this to the sound of the other two commentators loudly agreeing with each other and cutting her down), repeated that she was going to leave, and then left. No scene, no screeching, no stomping her feet or throwing things, she just realized there was no way she was going to be able to be heard at all, and withdrew.

I really failed to see how that qualified as a tantrum. The other two commentators, who were mostly saying things I agreed with, were being completely rude and disrespectful towards her. When Rush Limbaugh does that kind of I-can-shout-louder-than-you-so-I'm-right bullying, we call him on it. Why is it OK when our guys and gals do it?

::sigh again::

I know, hypocrisy is human nature. And I'm guilty of it myself - I find the Clinton video funny, but damn, if he was a conservative and his sexual history were being made light of in order to poke fun at a liberal, I don't know if I'd find it nearly as amusing.

I mean, I honestly don't think he's a rapist, as you've labeled him, but after reading your posts for a while I've had to really ask myself whether that's my honest opinion or just willingness to give him the benefit of the doubt because he happens to espouse political points of view that I agree with. And I know for damn sure if he'd been more to the right I wouldn't have just rolled my eyes and thought of him as a sleaze with terrible judgment with regard to workplace behaviour when the whole Lewinsky thing came out. And my mild disgust at the feminists who said absolutely nothing against him would have been more than mild; it probably would've come closer to outrage.

Hm... went off on a bit of a tangent, there. Should go to bed.

That's really funny because whenever I've seen John Edwards (the cutie) in a soundbyte I've thought: gay.
