  • It's 22C and sunny out, and Chris has taken the boys for a walk in the forest so I can study.

  • My computer gave me two glorious days of "normal" e-mail access. Then, suddenly, it switched back to the status quo of the last two months: 1-2 minutes to access each e-mail. ::sigh::

  • Filed under Things I Am Not Prepared To Deal With Yet: Daniel's first zit.

  • The violence ban is on again at our house, bigger and better than ever before. No violent TV shows, video games, pretend games, or ::gulp:: movies. Goodbye Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter 3 & 4, etc. Hello Bambi and Veggietales. Please for to shoot hug me now.

  • Am halfway through re-reading my FamLaw notes. 100% exam on Tuesday.

  • Am reading a whole hell of a lot of AbLaw stuff on sovereignty. Ovide Mercredi's a pretty persuasive speaker. I still hate my paper, 100% of my mark, due April 30.

  • I also hate my muse, which keeps popping up with all sorts of suggestions for fics. Oy! Muse! Shut! Up!

Oh, nothing terrible, just a Last Straw kind of thing. Justin and Daniel do a lot of play-fighting, and the rule is, if either gets hurt, they both get a time-out. The other day we went rock-climbing at a gym and Daniel ended up with a nosebleed because he and Justin were basically playing rough. Right after I had finished telling them that safety was of the utmost importance at the gym.

::shrug:: It's been a long time coming. We do this periodically, as a sort of violence detox, but the last one didn't take terribly well :(

Bambi's fairly violent, though, what with the hunters shooting Bambi's mom and all the animals fleeing in terror from the fire. Cinderella might be a better bet.

Yeah, but there's violence, and violence. Bambi's mom getting it off-screen v. millions of orcs, Rohirrim, and elves being shot, axed, decapitated, complete with spraying blood? We'll go with Bambi. God help us.

Then again, I'm picturing my kids' faces if I took out Cinderella. Hee :D :D :D

True. And God knows that after watching Bambi at an impressionable age, the urge to go hunting is forever dimmed - bonus!

*BIG HUGS* for the violence ban. It's been an effective tool in our house, and in the homes of several crunchy-granola friends of ours, when children are of a certain age. Not a permanent rest-of-your-life ban, but a sort of detox, a reminder that life isn't always, or even often, best suited to solutions that begin, "I draw my broadsword and attempt to behead my opponent; how many D20 do I roll to determine his damage?"

Don't panic about Daniel's zit. He had baby-acne as a newborn too, remember? This is probably just the marker that his pancreas just completed its growth (which happens between age 8 & 10, if I recall), and that bit of his endocrine system said "Let's fire up the oil glands and make sure they work! Yup! Hear that baby hummmm...schweet! Right. Back into dormancy for a few more years."

LOL!! Yeah, exactly :D :D

We've done it before a few times, and it worked pretty well. Last time we were kinda wishy washy though, so it's back to the drawing board for us. ::sigh::

Oh, from your lips to God's ear. I am not prepared for adolescence. ::shuddering::

Um...you can't show Bambi if you're on a violence ban.

Actually, most Disney is out.

No Lord of the Rings? Not even for the grown-ups?

Ouch.

Can I ask why? Is it just the recent shootings, or is it the boys behaving badly?

Hee, well see the choice is between Bambi, Brother Bear, Little Mermaid & Aladdin v. Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, and Troy.

shhhh. don't tell anyone. we watch terminator & reservoir dogs every night.

Can I ask why? Is it just the recent shootings, or is it the boys behaving badly?
Oh, nothing huge on their part, just taking playing rough too far. We do violence bans every so often as a sort of detox. The last detox didn't do much good, so we're going to do it with a bit more oomph.
