There was severe flooding going on in Manitoba at the time, and on TV that night, during a break, the newscaster said something like, "As the Red River rises, all of Winnipeg is wondering: will the dikes hold?"

That's only ten years ago? Wow, I'd thought it was while I was still in High School.

On this morning's news there's a whole thing about the CEO of BP having to resign, only the newscasters couldn't make up their mind about whether he had to resign because he'd had a gay relationship, or because he'd lied about having a gay relationship, or because he'd lied about something else entirely. So they made it all about being gay.

(Also, evil git Senator Bill Heffernan is using dog-whistle tactics against the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, saying that she can't be in leadership because she doesn't have children.)
