In no particular order...
Oct. 14th, 2007 10:53 pm- Am all Britished out. We just performed the Last Night of the Proms concert, local edition, which I am now aware is a hallowed and highly popular tradition in the Commonwealth. I had honestly never heard of it before.
Anyway, it's loads of fun; the first half of the concert is a selection of British- (or, in our case, Canadian-)themed songs (this year we sang Loch Lomond, Chickens in the Garden, and Will Ye No Come Back Again, and the brass band did... lots of other stuff) and the second half has patriotic British songs, mostly sung with the audience. Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 (Land of Hope and Glory1), Sir Henry Wood's Fantasia on British Sea Songs, Thomas Arne's Rule Britannia, Hubert Parry's Jerusalem (AKA Chariots of Fire), and God Save the Queen2, and Auld Lang Syne3. Um, if anybody follows any of the links above? Obviously, our concert was somewhat smaller. We did fill an entire church, though, which was impressive :)
Huge amount of fun. Haven't seen that many Union Jacks and Maple Leafs floating around since... ever.
And our director said the sopranos sounded good!! EEEee!! - Am tired. Too many late nights up to no good.
- Am hungry.
- Am realizing I'm becoming more of a girl as time goes on. Am currently wearing (all in black, because it's our concert-wear) tights, high heeled shoes, long skirt, low-cut sweater and pearl earrings. Also black lacies underneath, ahem. And did you know I found lingerie to wear that I can actually work out in? 'Strue! Holy support, dainty lacies! I don't even have to change them to do Taekwon-Do! Also lipstick. What happened to the real me?
- Am sad. The actress who played Fleur Delacour in Goblet of Fire has not been contacted for the filming of Half-Blood Prince. "I am good-looking enough for ze both of us!" was one of my favourite lines.
- Am feeling accomplished. Can do thirty push-ups with ease now. And two weeks after the fact I am also still ridiculously proud of having gotten our yellow belts :) :) :)
- The clouds we painted on the boys' walls really do look very nice. I should take a picture.
1: It takes a rather long time to get to the singing part of this YouTube video, but in the meantime you get to see the Queen growing up. I'd forgotten she trained as an army mechanic.
2: This link actually has the sung part of "Land of Hope And Glory" and "God Save the Queen", minus the instrumental lead-up and 80 years of royal life.
3: I found a YouTube link to Auld Lang Syne at the Last Night of the Proms. It was gorgeous. And then? It wasn't. I guess whoever was taking the video - and his drunk and tone-deaf friends - really got into the spirit(!) of it and... ::shudders:: ::scrubs ears::
Girl?

Date: 2007-10-15 07:05 pm (UTC)I usually do. Sorry, I was trying to be funny.
And since you're going to start working in a law firm soon, suits & make-up will be a necessity. Oh dear.
I've caught on to that, thanks.
