ciroccoj: (OMG)

Chris: (has just begun reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix to the boys) "...Every day this summer had been the same: the tension, the expectation, the temporary relief, and then mounting tension again..." So, in other words he's a typical teenage boy-
Me: ::muffled snort-laugh::
Boys: What do you mean, Daddy?
Chris: Tell you when you're older. "... and always, growing more insistent all the time, the question of why nothing had happened yet." Yup, totally normal teenage boy.
Me: ::laughing:: Oh, stop it!
Boys: But what do you mean, Daddy?

Also, I'm not sure what some people will make of these two items:

Dumbledore was gay, says 'Potter' author
Quote: Rowling also said she had read through Steve Kloves' script for the movie adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and corrected a passage in which Dumbledore was reminiscing about past loves by crossing it out and scrawling "Dumbledore is gay" over it.

Rowling discusses religion
Quote: Of course the book has Christian images, “almost epitomize the whole series,” Rowling now says. Like, duh!

Yeah, y'know, I'm an atheist and I caught that. Christian themes of forgiveness and redemption and life after death and faith and all that just run through the whole series. Not that they're exclusively Christian themes, but they were pretty bloody obvious. I kinda wondered whenever banning stories were in the air, whether these people would've been trying to ban the Narnia books too in their time.

I thought that too, right through the series, right up until she made Dumbledore God to Harry's Jesus. No. Just no. It can't be a Christian allegory if you make God flawed.

I didn't see DD as God to Harry's Jesus. I didn't see Harry as Jesus. Just a lot of Christian themes and images. So DD being flawed doesn't really change that for me. Besides, I thought DD was flawed around book 3 or 4, so... yeah.

Oh well, to each her own ;)

I'm so thrilled by Dumbledore being canonically gay. It makes my whole day.

Also, HEE. I NEVER would've gotten that out of OotP by myself. *snortgiggle*

Hee, yeah :)

There's been some serious shit over on some sites re. people livid at her - that she made him gay because OMGGROSS, that she said it now because OMGATTENTIONWHORE, that she didn't say it in the books because OMGCOWARD/HOMOPHOBE, that she didn't say it in iambic pentameter because OMGANTI-POETRYPHILISTINE...

Me, I just thought it was cool. Damn but I'm easy to please.

::snicker:: Yeah, I'm so lucky. I don't have to wait for my sons to grow up in order to experience the delight of 14-year-old-boy humour... I've got Chris.
