... with Taylor Mali, a slam poet, whose What do teachers really make? made me want to stand up and cheer.

BTW, an alternate title for it is apparently "If you can't make it as a teacher, be a lawyer" - which I find hysterical because, um, that's me. I didn't go into law school because I finally realized I was meant to do more with my life than "just" teach. I went into it in part because I just didn't have what it took to be a teacher my entire life.

Also: Like, you know? is something I'm really glad I hadn't viewed before now because there were at least two students in my class this month who I constantly wanted to poke with sharp sticks over this very issue. Because they were really smart, but you kinda like couldn't tell, you know? And had I seen this video first... well, it just might have been ugly?

Tony Steinberg: Brave Seventh Grade Viking Warrior This isn't a video, it's text only. Have tried to describe it six times, no dice. "Gutwrenching" comes close.

Tony Steinberg? Gutwrenching is nowhere near close. Maybe I should not be clicking on links described as such, tonight. Not in a happy place, so...

I'm going to tell myself that that poem is pure fiction, so I can sleep tonight.

Yeah. I did the same last night. Brought up too many things I'd been thinking about as well, and... well like I said, I tried to describe it and came up blank.

Wow. That guy is awesome. That's the kind of teacher I wanted to be, but... *sigh*

But on that topic, I once had a car salesman tell me that my job (teaching kindergartners) was easy. That he could do it, no problem, but HIS job. Now THAT took skill and hard work. *insert eye roll here* Now, I'm not going to say I could do his job well, and by well, I mean make the money at it that he could. I don't have the schmoozing skills, the people skills. I was tempted to invite him to my class, and tell him to have at it. Not give him a lesson plan--he'd have to come up with that on his own--not help at all. But since I couldn't stand the guy, I really didn't want to spend any extra time with him. *shudder* Should have been my first hint to break up with his best friend, but I'm a bit dense sometimes.

Mwahahahaha. Foolish, foolish mortal. You have not known fear until you have faced a roomful of four-year olds armed with nothing but desperation and a sunny disposition.

LOL!!!
