ciroccoj: (St. Patrick's Day)

  • I had a mostly crappy one, but whatever. Up most of the night working on my final paper ever for law school, which turned out to be hands-down the very worst paper I have ever written for law school, like, ever. Totally my fault; I picked a topic I knew almost nothing about, learned a lot but kept hitting dead ends in what I wanted to talk about. Eg, I wanted to compare Canadian legislation to American and European, but it turned out the parts I wanted to compare kinda didn't exist in the Canadian legislation... so I wanted to see why that was, and was unable to get decent info on it... so then I wanted to show a link between an American scheme and general international stuff - which turned out to have been done to death already...

So in the end I had an outline, lots of notes, many ideas, and just plain ran out of time to actually condense it, cut all the repetition, check my footnoting, make, like, a point...

Oh well. I've been a totally solid mostly B+ student until now, with a few Bs and As thrown in here and there and that icky D from my first take-home exam (Administrative Law... least said about that, the better) so hopefully my average can take the rather precipitous dip this is sure to cause. I hoped to get an extension, but my prof pointed out that he had been very clear that there were none, and yeah, he had been. C'est la vie.

Live and learn. And I did learn a lot from the course, and from the disastrous paper experience, so it's hardly a dead loss :)

  • Oh, and in a really cute side note, as I was up last night there was somebody else reading a multi-chapter story I had written and sending me reviews. She was studying for something and had told herself for every X pages she studied, she would treat herself to one chapter of my fluffy fic. So through most of the night I kept getting these little "Wheee! That was cool! Loved how character Y told Z where to go! I'm so tired but still have 50 pages of notes left to revise. Later!"

I really wanted to send her a note saying Hey, I'm up too, but she was reviewing anonymously. Still. Two e-ships passing in the e-night, lights blinking friendly encouragement at each other, my story giving her something to look forward to, her reviews giving me something to look forward to :)

  • In other news, Chris is taking his green belt this Friday!

  • And to wrap up on a green theme:

Wherever you go and whatever you do,
May the luck of the Irish be there with you.

Congratulations on finishing that very last law school paper ever! Good, bad or indifferent - done! is always a nice feeling.
