Happy Mother's Day!
May. 11th, 2008 06:32 pmTo all who celebrate it, either as mothers or children or both :)
My Mother's Day was surprisingly free of children until past lunchtime, as Daniel and Justin were at Cubs and Beavers camp. Which was OK by me; they were having fun, I got to sleep, and study, and when they got back we were all happy to see each other again. Absence makes the hear grow fonder ;)
Got beautiful Mother's Day stuff from them, too. At Thursday's geology class, Doris brought in gemstones and they all made jewelry for their moms. I got two pairs of earrings with gemstones and gold leaf applied haphazardly so that it wouldn't "totally cover the gems." What they lack in aesthetics they make up for in sentimental value. Daniel also made me a necklace, and they both gave me stuff from camp as well; a survival kit made by Daniel and a picture by Justin. I love my boys.
Saturday was a treat of quite a different kind, as Chris and I realized that we were going to be utterly childfree and should probably do something to commemorate said extraordinary event, Bar Exam or no Bar Exam.
So we went to the fanciest restaurant we know of, across the bridge in Quebec. Had real French food, and I don't mean poutine. We'd been there once before, when my mom and Guy decided we didn't get out enough and paid for a dinner for us, but this was our first time on our own dime. To say it was fantastic really doesn't do it justice - for folks like us whose idea of splurging is Denny's, it was pretty heady stuff.
Like, the wine? Looked expensive. Like, without even tasting it you could see it was not in the same class as the $12 bottles we pick up from the grocery store when we're feeling festive.
And we dressed up, too, which is always fun - makeup, earrings, and heels for me, kilt, shirt and tie for Chris. Felt all Cinderella-like :) :)
I'm still all happy-glowy over it. Think I will be for a while. Maybe it'll help me slog through my readings. ::sigh::

Happy Mother's Day, Jim. You are a blessing on my friendslist and I love reading your adventures in Momhood.
Best of luck with the readings. *hugs*

I have the oddest craving for hummus right now. That's not Afghan, is it?
