::pointing up:: Chris' words, upon finishing reading Deathly Hallows with the kids tonight. And I must say, as much as I've made fun of the Crapilogue myself, it was just incredibly cool watching Justin's face at the end. Grinning from ear to ear and saying, "He's got KIDS? And he named his kids James and Lily?! That's SO COOL!! James and Lily Potter!" and a bit later, "Albus Severus!! WOW!! That is SO COOL!! Albus Severus!"

...so I don't think I'll be showing him these two icons, which I did not make, but which made me chortle to no end :D :D :D

It's kinda weird. I think Chris has been reading these books to the kids for the last ten years or something. Mind you, he started when Justin was pretty young and couldn't really sit through more than five minutes of story without pictures, and during his residency when he wasn't physically here to read to them most of the time anyway and on my nights to put them to bed I always read them other stuff, but still. In the last year or so it became a nightly tradition, and now it's over. Hm.

Oh well, have to find another set of kids books. Think we'll probably go with one-shots for a while, then find another series. ::bounces happily::

I think that's the biggest mistake people make about these books: they forget the target audience. My kids enjoyed the endings, too, and the entire series. Youngling (just turned 12) has read the entire series through twice, and a number of the individual books yet more times. Just because adults don't like something doesn't mean it won't resonate with the kids.

Though I'm not sure there's enough "for the kids" ever to excuse Jar-Jar Binks.

Highly reccomending the Spiderwick Chronicles. A series, but a very short one, and cool :)

Love the icons! LOL.

Suggestion for new bedtime reading: Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising series. I loved that one, and so did my kids when it was our bedtime read-aloud.

I'll think on it and see if I can come up with some suggestions.

And ironically, it's also been ten years since Harry Potter arrived on the bestseller list. I read last week that for the first time in almost a decade, there is now not a HP book on the list.

I remember being a fan of the Silverwing series as a kid. Don't know if they're still available, but I believe the author's name was Keith Opele (sp?).

I loved (still love) The Unicorn Chronicles by Bruce Coville more than is possibly healthy, but those might be a) too girl centered and b) too young for your boys. My niece is 7 and she's just starting to get interested in them, after my mum lent them to my sister-in-law because SHE remembered loving them when she read them to me, LOL! :D

Just thought I'd offer my suggestions. :)
