Rideau & Sussex. Myeah notsogreat pic of me and the World's Ugliest Hat, but check out the masses of red & white people filling the streets. Downtown is closed to cars for the day, and at night, all buses are free so we can all get home from the fireworks.

More red & white people! Final tally was something like 300,000.

Alexandra Interprovincial Bridge. First time we've crossed the bridge on foot, and first time we've crossed into Quebec on Canada Day. They party over there too! Cool!

More Bridge. You can't tell from this picture, but the river was full of little boats speeding around. Very cute.

Chalk drawings in Quebec!

One of my kids making a chalk drawing! Vive le Canada :)

Museum of Civilization. Admission was free, and it was thus full of happy people. As were almost all Ottawa museums. And! They had a special exhibition on The Greeks! Am very glad we crossed into Quebec.

My boys at the Museum. Ontario & the Parliament Buildings across the river. Am thinking it's time to retire Justin's t-shirt. I think it's been around since Daniel was three.

Concert on the Hill.

Yes, we watched Blue Rodeo. Among many other acts that I mostly hadn't heard of because I'm old. Last time I saw Blue Rodeo perform was around 1992, when they played at AJ's or Dollar Bill's in Kingston. Moxy Fruvous opened for them. I miss Moxy Fruvous.

Dancin'. Justin and I dancing to Blue Rodeo. That kid is so getting ballroom dancing when the home schoolers run it again.

Fireworks loud. And Big. We usually watch the fireworks from Major's Hill Park and not Parliament Hill, and I think they're a little louder from there. And I don't know if they did this on purpose or not, but at the end of the concert, after Blue Rodeo played their last song, all the performers were called on to the stage and started the crowd singing O Canada, and as we got to the last line? The fireworks started. Um, whoa.

Date: 2008-07-18 03:14 am (UTC)You may have heard that I talk in my sleep. Clearly, and in complete sentences. Sometimes, this wakes me up. Several weeks ago (? sometime before I took the unexpected trip down the stairs) I woke up saying: "Canada is full of handsome jerks." Apropos of nothing in particular - I don't remember the dream that went with it :) I must have had you and
