ciroccoj: (yuck)

Our goddamn cat is pissing all over the house. Can't leave anything on the floor any more. And she's set her sights and her [censored] even higher; her latest spraying ground is our homeschooling bookshelves.

Atlases, encyclopedias, and our French and Spanish books. All smell like an unchanged litterbox.

Too pissed (literally) to tone down the language right now.

Ouch! Our cat did that too when she went into renal failure. On the plus side (for us, not for her) by the time it got really bad she couldn't or wouldn't climb stairs so only floor level on the ground floor was in danger.

Yeah, ours is still pretty spry despite her age. Which is good. Really. Mostly :(

I was going to ask if you had taken the cat to the vet. A change in behavior like that, in an animal, is often an indication of disease. Cats don't randomly change their behavior for no reason.

When cats have a UTI that makes urinating painful they will often come to associate the pain with the box and avoid the source of the pain.

I know how frustrating it is as I had a kidney cat for several years. I came to recognize when things were going down because she became more incontinant with regards to the cat box. Good Luck.

Yeah, we've taken her three times so far. They suggested a number of reasons: constipation (we gave her meds), litterbox troubles (Chris started cleaning it more frequently), new cats moving in next door (we considered poisoning them), etc etc. We figure the biggest reason is that she's old, and there's new cats next door. Can't do much about either.

Still going to bring her in again next week. ::sigh::

Yeah, I think we may just have to adjust to this as our new normal. Ugh.

Simple Solution is very good about neutralizing the smell on more than just a superficial level. Hope it's available where you are.

(My cat will pee on things on the floor if her catbox is dirty as a protest, but I second the suggestion above.)

I'm so sorry!

Yeah, we use Febreeze, but it's still icky to have to clean up after her. And seeing little wet spots on our kids' Spanish books? EEEeew.

Don't have much to add here, except that I'm sorry for both you and your cat. :(

Yeah, me too. We've had her in the basement today, because she's peeing on everything. Hopefully the vet will give us more workable ideas, 'cause basement cat => not a happy cat.

The problem is that everything the vet has said so far has worked... for a couple weeks. Then we're back to square one, and going through Febreeze like water.

::sigh::
