The boys walked home from TKD last night. First time walking on their own.
Chris: [goes over all safety rules]
Boys: [repeat back all safety rules]
Chris: [turns to Daniel] Now. Daniel. [hands on shoulders, straight stare into eyes, Listen To Me This Means You] You're the twelve-year-old. You're responsible for paying attention to the traffic, the light, the cars. Especially in the parking lot and at the crossing.
Daniel: Yes.
Chris: Going to pay attention?
Daniel: Yes.
Chris: Good job. Off you go.
Boys: [leave]
Me: ... and you know what I'm thinking as you're saying all of that?
Chris: What?
Me "Now. Justin. You're the awake one."
Chris: Yeah, that's exactly what I thought. I almost said it, too.
Me: Except you totally don't have to, with Justin.
Chris: Yeah, exactly.

I bet! There are so many things that we only let them do now because Daniel is legally old enough to do them, but Justin is mature enough to be trusted to do them right ;)
