Just came back from Fabricland, where the clerk observed Justin for a little while and then asked me if he was just high spirited or had Aspergers. I would have been offended if she hadn't been so friendly with me and kid-friendly with him as he did his out-of-control thing (he loves Fabricland, but it overwhelms him with its colours and textures).
"No," I sighed, "He's just three."
"Oh! Oh, that explains it."
It does, a bit. He's huge - he looks five. His behaviour seems terribly, terribly immature for a five-year old. Unfortunately, he's also as strong as a five- (or eight-) year old, which is part of what makes his roughness so hard to take.
I must remind myself that Daniel was a real handful too, at this age. And although he still has problems behaving at school, at home he's almost an angel. A little distracted and overly talkative, but almost never, ever, defiant or rebellious.
This too shall pass. Some day. Hopefully before we throw Justin out the window.
