Medal roundup
Jun. 6th, 2009 11:28 pmDaniel won gold in sparring. Chris won bronze in sparring. I got silver in sparring and pattern. Justin got nothing.
One of the problems is that Justin's division (boys 7-9, belts white-blue) was massive (around 20 or so kids) whereas Chris and Daniel were both competing in divisions of 5 and I was competing in a group of 3. We almost couldn't not get medals. But try getting a nine-year-old to understand that.
Part of the problem is that he could have done better, though, if he'd been more willing to accept constructive criticism during training. So now we're trying to help Justin walk that fine line between beating himself up for things that were not within his control (eg huge division) and explaining or excusing away things that were within his control (eg reluctance to accept help).
After the tournament we came home and Chris and I had a nap. Then we headed back out for a banquet at Mandarin Ogilvie. The day improved markedly for Justin at this point, what with delicious Chinese food and incredibly cool Kung Fu demonstrations. So, not a total loss ;)

OMG I totally forgot to let you know, I had to show your h/s science conversation post to Chris, because otherwise he would be unable to get just how "EEEeeee! It's just like at our house!" the whole thing was :D :D :D
