Got our red belts. Kicked butt.

Was proud of the boys for two things: how they both excelled at what they do best - TKD knowledge for Daniel, and sparring for Justin - and how hard they worked at the things that don't come as naturally for them. Which happen to be TKD knowledge for Justin and sparring for Daniel.

Oh, and Chris and I did pretty good too :)

So. We're all red belts. Red signifies "danger", in that we supposedly have enough TKD knowledge to be dangerous. Approximately a year away from black. Probably more, since they only do two black belt tests per year, and we'd have to work out butts off to be ready for this December, so we probably won't go up until next summer. Still, it's very nice to be part of the almost-elite :D :D :D

Heck of a birthday present for Justin too, and almost-birthday present for Daniel ;)

It's interesting -- when I first joined my TKD school, there were a number of people who were lingering around the red-with-black-tips stage for a year or so since testing for black belt required a lot more stuff than the regular tests -- we do stuff like self-defense (someone grabs you from behind, someone grabs you from the front, someone grabs you by the neck), as well as takedowns, sparring, knowledge, and having put together a lesson plan or two for working on speed or power or technique or things like that.

So, hey! Congrats on the red belts! :D

I always thought of red belts being the danger sign in terms of "You know enough to hurt yourself." But that's just me. :D

Yeah, same here, though we do the defense, takedown, sparring, and knowledge from white belt on up. Once you get your black stripe you go to this special black belt prep class where they tell you "bring a pencil, notebook, sports bars and lots of water - you'll need it!." I can imagine that's where a lot of people kinda stall ;)

So, hey! Congrats on the red belts! :D
Thank you!

LOL yeah, that too :D :D :D

I'm pretty sure a black belt told us once that you're more dangerous as a red belt than a black belt because you know enough to cause harm, but not enough to always be able to not cause harm if you don't mean to. Black belts don't tend to say "Ooops!" a lot ;D

Fantastic! I only ever got to red stripe. The red belt test called for a jumping 360 hook kick board break, and with my cerebral palsy it just wasn't going to happen. They would have made accommodations for me, but I didn't want it that way.

So I know how much work it takes! Congrats to all of you!

Congratulations to you all! Very polite congratulations of course as you can never be too careful around 'danger'.
