Brain going a bit mushy from legal research, I take a break and read Canadians easily offended? Britain thinks so, an article about new guidelines from Britain's national tourism agency, to prepare for the 2012 Olympics. In among tips on how not to offend or be offended by cultural differences (don't ask Brazilians personal questions, don't wink at folks from China or Hong Kong), there's this:

"Indians also don't like being touched by strangers and may be suspicious about the quality of British food, the guide said, without noting the latter might be a common concern."

Mmmm, barely edible cuisine ;)

I find that statement kinda odd. I don't like generalizing, but as a race, we Indians really don't get the concept of personal space. (overpopulation - thank you!) Most people have no qualms of causally patting a stranger's back while giving him directions etc. But this is acceptable only for men. Most people will avoid touching a woman for the simple reason it might be seen as hitting on her - or 'eve teasing' as it is commonly referred to in India.

British food. *smiles* Well, ok, I have to agree to that part. Except for Beef Wellington which is something that I adore. That and yes, a traditional Shepard’s pie and pot roast that you get in any decent pub.

I thought Indian cuisine was quite common in England...?

When I visited England, I did not have a single bad meal. Have to stick to the pubs, for sure. Mmmm, chicken pasty!
