So tired.

  • There is a particularly beautiful expression on the face of a person who has tensed up at the mention that you are working for a lawyer and want to ask them a few questions. It appears when they realize that whatever you are asking about has absolutely nothing to do with them. It's like the sun breaking out from behind a cloud; like a clash of joyful cymbals after a minor-key fugue; like a baby seeing a kitten for the first time.

  • The OC Transpo buses have this "new" feature where a voice automatically announces each stop in English and French. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for bilingualism, and think it's great that we have "Laurentian High School/Ecole secondaire Laurentien" and "RCMP/GRC", but really wish somebody had thought it out a little harder. Most names are exacly the same, just with a different accent. It makes it sound like the voice is making fun of the French when it solemnly intones "Prince of Wales/Prihnz ov Wells" "Riverside/Reevairsa-eed-uh."

  • I do wish they'd get rid of the Laurentian High School bit though. The school is dead and gone. Though I don't know what they'd say in its place; "Ugly Pit of Future Cheap Crap/Trou laid des m*rdes de bon marche" would probably take too long.

  • I'm learning ever so much new vocabulary at work. Some of it is legalese. Some of it is from our clients. Stuff from our clients? Not always printable.

  • Day started inauspiciously, because the real word for how it started is also unprintable. Suffice it to say that the next time I bring yoghurt to work in my briefcase, I will wrap its container in plastic.

  • Lost my first solo argument on behalf of a client the other day. I knew it was pretty hopeless from the beginning, but it was still disappointing.

  • Up is such a great movie. So very wise, in so many ways.

Up is a great movie. I agree. We quote it all the time around here. It's a feel good movie, and funny, and always makes me just about cry.
You are one busy lady, but I admire your sense of calm and appreciation for this new adventure you are on. Your descriptions are always so spot on without being mean or petty. Not an easy thing to do.

I can't decide which scene makes me cry more: the "Thanks for the adventure" bit in Up, or the final scene in Toy Story 3. Both are just devastating, in a beautiful way.

And thanks :) :) :)

I have personally seen the expression you describe in the first point. There's something of a perverse thrill in it. The flip side of it is the first attorney I worked for handled a lot of divorces. I was 26 and cute then. Guys who had been dodging process servers were total suckers for a girl with thick, butt-length hair coming up to them with a big smile. The best part was approaching them when they were with their pals and hearing the laughs as I walked awaay. "Oh, are *you* Steve? Steve Smith? I've been wanting to meet you." (gush) "This is for you."

This actually made me snort my tea, by the way :D :D :D
