  • Suddenly realized that the Vice President in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is the same actress as Henrietta "Duck-face" from Four Weddings and a Funeral.

  • We have a front door again! And it no longer looks totally crappy. We sanded it, took it down, primed and painted it, but it was so bloody humid it took days for it to finally dry enough to be put back up. Three days of no front door, and plastic all over the floor.

  • The boys came to court today. They came to #5 court (Remand, where you give a JP an idea of how quickly your case is moving along) and #7 court (Plea court, where the clerk reads out the charge, the accused pleads guilty, the Crown tells the judge what happened, both defence and Crown tell the judge what they think the penalty should be, and the judge hands down the sentence.)

Justin: It was interesting, #5 court was just sad because you need to wait for about thirty minutes to say "Can we do this later?" (Note: it usually takes way more than thirty minutes to say "Can we do this later?")

[#7 court was] cool. Interesting. Made me not exactly want to be a lawyer, but mostly because of #5.

He's mostly thrilled, though, that we went to Subway for lunch :) :)

Daniel: Again, #5 was kinda sad, #7 was quite interesting. It really changed how I think of the court system. I found both cases fairly interesting and actually agreed with the judge on both of them.

There was a drunk driver who backed up into the person who was trying to stop her from driving and there was a part-Aborigal guy who I believe had sold some drugs. .3 grams of crack cocaine.

He's mostly thrilled that he got to go to Fandom II afterwards :) :) :)

  • Recently finished reading Justin Rilla of Ingleside, which I think should be required reading for all Canadian schoolchildren who have to study World War I.

  • Just finished reading A Swiftly Tilting Planet to both boys. Probably my favourite Madeleine L'Engle book. I can still recite by memory

At Tara in this fateful hour
I place all Heaven with its power
And the sun with its brightness,
And the snow with its whiteness,
And the fire with all the strength it hath,
And the lightning with its rapid wrath,
And the winds with their swiftness along their path,
And the sea with its deepness,
And the rocks with their steepness,
And the earth with its starkness:
    All these I place
By God’s almighty help and grace
Between myself and the powers of darkness!

  • Kitten is cleaning himself again! Kittens with diarrhea are no fun at all :( :(

  • Also just finished reading Story of the World, Part III. Started with Elizabeth I, and ended with the Forty Niners and the entry of California into Statehood in 1850. And in the category of historico-musical blasphemy, I started to sing Oh My Darling Clementine ("In a cavern, in a canyon/Excavaating for a mine/Lived a miner/Forty-Niner/And his daughter, Clementine") and Daniel said, "Hey, they based that on the Peanut Song!"

You know, the one with the catchy tune (from Clementine)

Found a peanut, found a peanut,
    Found a peeeanut la-ast night,
    Last night I
    Found a peanut
    Found a peanut, last night

    I was appalled.

  • Daniel is currently reading Dune. ::boggle::

I love Rilla. That is one of my favorite books of the whole series.
And congrats on your new front door.:)

Ha!

Anna Chancellor was also Caroline Bingley in the best adaptation of Pride & Prejudice in existence (IMHO). (Fact: she's also descended from Jane Austen's family.)
