Choir concert yesterday went pretty well. There were no major screw-ups, and many of our songs came out really, really well, although Chris commented that the men's section needs to be bigger or louder or both. As he put it, we were "heavily ditzed."
"Ditzed?"
"Yeah, you know, the soprano section's too big."
Haha, hon. Very funny. I would bristle with resentment if I weren't the originator of 99% of the soprano-deprecating comments in our home ;)
Oh, and Will Ye No Come Back was amazing. We had a drummer accompanying us for the more 'martial' bits, three of us sopranos actually went for the high A finale (and got it! ouch) and the basses who had threatened to mimic bagpipes before the performance didn't carry out their dastardly threats.
Also very cool: the boys were all dressed up in their Sunday best (basically getting them used to their wedding finery) and god they were cute. And when we filed in at the start of the concert, Justin got away from Chris, ran up to the choir yelling Mama! Mama!! and gave me a big hug. The audience and choir were highly amused :)

I've been dieting for a few months now, and had been doing very well until recently. I kept getting stricter and stricter and not losing an ounce - in fact, I was gaining, much to my dismay. So today Chris asked if I'd calibrated our scale lately.
"Calibrated?" I asked. "What's that?"
Um, yeah. So. I weigh 8 pounds less right now than I did half an hour ago.

Went to my mom's house for lunch today with Justin. My aunt Mary is visiting from Germany, as she does every year or so. She visited a few years ago when Justin was very very small, and played with him at great length despite their language barrier, and he's never forgotten her. Every time he sees her, he's overjoyed. He calls her his "aunt friend."
So today we got to the house, he ran up to her, jumped into her arms and just stayed there. Not talking, not doing anything, just enjoying being near his aunt friend :)

Daniel was in a talent show about a month ago at his school. I was surprised to hear him talk about it and asked if he was really doing something on his own on stage.
"Oh, no," he said, "it's not just me."
"Is it your whole class?"
"I think so."
He asked if Chris or I could go but we both had something going on that day, and he didn't seem all that interested in having us there so we let the matter drop and didn't bother to try to change our schedules the way we usually do when there's a major event going on.
A few days ago he comes home with a ribbon, for having been in the talent show. It says "Participant." That's nice, I think, they gave all the kids ribbons. Hell of a lot of ribbons if all the classes were participating, but whatever.
Then I'm looking through his backpack for his homework and find a newsletter with the names of the students who participated in the talent show. And Daniel is there. By himself, not with his whole class.
"Um, Daniel? This says you were by yourself on the stage for the talent show?"
"No, I wasn't."
"But this has your name by itself, with the song you sang."
"Yeah, but I didn't do the whole talent show by myself. Just that one song. There were lots of other kids who went up there too," he explained, and went off to play, leaving me rather stunned.
I dunno, at Daniel's age I would not have gone up on stage by myself for any amount of money. And here's Daniel, who apparently didn't think to be nervous about it because it really wasn't that big a deal. Just one song, right? Anybody can do that.
He's no son of mine, that's for sure.

I got my Indigo Girls 12:00 Curfews CDs back!! I've been looking for them forlornly for months, and found out on Sunday that apparently I had loaned them to Karen. She gave them back. And I was so excited to get them that I promptly lost them again. ::seething::
