Finally done reading the Neanderthal Parallax. Overall, interesting and fun, although I did have to work to let go of my assumption that it was written for grownups. Rather simplistic characters, heavy-handed moralizing, and fantabulous plot devices abounded. Still. A nifty little set of stories.

And funny in parts, too. Near the end one of the characters reflects that "Canada could've had British culture, French cuisine, and American know-how... but instead ended up with American culture, British cuisine, and French know-how." ::snicker::

Also cute: one-dimensional Evil American Villain (who skipped the "Top 100 Things I'd Do If I Ever Became An Evil Overlord" website) cackles:

"Well, well, well. Three brave Canadians, come to save the Neanderthals." He shook his head. "You people have always amused me, with your silly socialism and misguided bleeding hearts. But you know what strikes me as the funniest thing about Canadians?" He reached into his jacket and pulled out a semiautomatic pistol. "You don't carry guns."
