Running errands all morning, including buying my first textbook of the year (ugh). We'd stopped to get a snack for the boys and were walking to our next stop of the morning when I said, "Wow, it's a beautiful day, isn't it?"

"MMMmhmm!" said Justin. "The air is nice and fresh, and we have these great cheesy sticks!"

He's a little man of simple needs :)

Speaking of my first textbook, I'm trying to get into the mindset of a new school year, but it's a little tough. I'm looking forward to my classes, but not looking forward to not being around the boys. It feels like the summer's flown by, and I'm not ready to say goodbye for the next eight months.

Although hopefully I won't be really saying goodbye to Daniel, at least. Justin will be in JK and day care full-time (same school, two different classrooms), but I hope to be at home with Daniel Thursdays and Fridays, since I have no classes those two days. Hopefully we'll be able to do homeschooling activities like chess club on Thursdays and family choir and swimming on Fridays. We still need to see how well we can work out stuff with the school. They said last year that they had no problem me taking Daniel out part-time, but since I had Wednesday & Thursdays off at the time, they were concerned that it might be a little bewildering to him to switch between home and school four times per week. I figured they had a good point.

It also remains to be seen what my workload is like. I'm booked for almost full-time right now, because I want to be able to drop the two courses that look like they'd be too much trouble. So I'll go to all the classes in the first week, then see if there's anything that looks excruciating and get rid of it. Also, I'll be trying out for the Law Review, because that's worth another credit and it's done on your own time - no scheduled class time.

I really hope my courses are at least mildly interesting. I'd like to say they couldn't possibly suck as badly as Contracts and Property, but then I'd be jinxing myself because hey, classes can always suck worse. At least my profs last year were dynamic and engaging. Those are hardly universal traits among the faculty.

So far I'm looking at:

  • Studies In International Law: International Environmental Law
  • Civil Liberties
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution
  • Legal Drafting
  • Aboriginal Peoples and the Law
  • Law Review (if I pass their test)

I'll probably drop either Aboriginal or Drafting, which are actually the two that interest me the most, because they're both on in the evening. And trying to schedule babysitters/make sure Chris isn't on call two nights of the week? Not gonna happen.

Actually, my schedule right now is a little intimidating:

Can you imagine me dropping Aboriginal, and keeping Drafting? 10.5 straight hours of law seminars, starting Monday at 8:30am. I'd probably last all of three weeks.

And now, I'm going back to the kids. It's been a productive day so far: we ran errands, finished building the second big bionicle, and played Kids of Catan. Now I hope to interest them in making the figures for our Four Alls medieval diorama again, and this time, when they're done, I will take the figures away so that they don't squish them into plasticine barbells like they did last time. ::sigh:: All the figures we'd worked so hard to make - the priest, the peasants, the knights, the lord & lady... all squished. Bits of aluminum foil that had been armour still sticking out of the big globby barbells.

Children are just Chaos with feet.
