Randomness is all.

  • Went to the Children's Museum again today. God, that's a super place. And nice to talk to another mom, too. Nice for the kids to have other kids to play with, especially two little boys around their age (5 and 2).

  • Had another hs family over yesterday, too - mom, 8-yr old girl, 5-yr old boy. The girl (Evelyn) didn't play with the other kids, just mostly hung out with me and her mom. Really interesting kid, too - had plenty of her own opinions, good sense of humour :)

Interesting thing - they both took a look at Justin running around and screaming and hitting things, looked at each other, and mom said, "Bring back fond memories?"

Apparently Garrett, the 5-yr old, used to be much, much worse. Then they tested him for food sensitivities, cut out sugar, wheat, and bunch of other stuff... and now he's a really nice kid.

    Hm. Possibilities...

  • Chris still in Calgary till tomorrow. Funeral went OK. Family doing well. But Justin misses his dad :(

  • Random quote from Chris: "See, that's another reason I never ever want a divorce: so that we can visit our kids together when they're grown ups and have moved out." As good a reason as any :) I wonder what that would be like.

  • Innocent-sounding question at marital counseling last week: "What are your families like? In terms of your parents' marriages?"

BWAAHAHAHAHA!!! We didn't even make it to my family, the whole rest of the session was taken up by Chris.

  • No hot water in my shower. Hot water tap broken. Eeep.

  • One of the speakers on our computer seems broken. ::sob::

  • Rather jealous of [livejournal.com profile] bear and [livejournal.com profile] gypsum, who are actually working in law this summer. I'm enjoying my time with the kids, but... ::sigh:: Part of me wishes I didn't have to wait so long to do the lawyer thing.

  • Oh, and from [livejournal.com profile] flickgc's site, Don't read this at a public computer

  • [livejournal.com profile] tobiascharity got Plain Sight Exception VII done! Yay!!

Yup, Justin's losing his nap. Oh god. I keep reminding myself that as hard as I fought to keep Daniel napping at this age, when I finally threw in the towel... it worked out pretty good.

***

"I don't believe in luck," says Daniel the other day.
"No?" I ask.
"No. I stepped on cracks a thousand times, and you never broke your back."

***

Reading Passages by Connie Willis. OMG this is why I fell in love with her: (emerg room doctor talking to her friend) "No, I don't know [Dr. Wright]. He could be an intern - we get so many that I don't bother to learn their names any more. I just call them 'Stop that!' and 'What do you think you're doing?'"

***

"So who's your daddy?" Daniel asks.
"Grandpa Jaime. You met him when you were a baby, but Justin never has."
"And he's not married to Luli?" [my mother]
"No. He was when I was little, but now he's not."
"But he's still your daddy?"
"Yup. Once you're somebody's parent, you're their parent for life."
"Unless they get adopted."
"Well, yeah."
"But I bet there's still a place in their heart for you."
"What?"
"Like that song. 'There's none more Scots than the Scots abroad, there's a place in our hearts for the old sod'," he sings [Spirit of the West, BTW]. "I bet it's like that for adopted kids. There's still a place in their hearts for their first Mama or Daddy, even after they're adopted."
"Uh... yeah..."

Holy shit, he's six.

I feel like how I felt the day I told him about Jean Valjean from Les Miserables, and he told me that he was a lot like Aladdin. And proceded to explain exactly how. He'll never have a problem with "compare and contrast" essay questions in college.

OK, here's the interview thingy from [livejournal.com profile] tobiascharity. And instructions from her lj: If you want me to interview you--post a comment that simply says, "Interview me." I'll respond with questions for you to take back to your own journal and answer as a post. Of course, they'll be different for each person since this is an interview and not a general survey. At the bottom of your post, after answering the Interviewer's questions, you ask if anyone wants to be interviewed. So it becomes your turn-- in the comments, you ask them any questions you have for them to take back to their journals and answer. And so it becomes the circle.

And TC - you're tough, girl. You actually made me think about these.
