I think I've listened to my U2 Rattle My Bum CD about 137 times today, as I plod through my Review article. And yet I'm still singing along. There's just so many incredible songs - Desire, Hawkmoon, I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, Angel of Harlem, and of course Pride. That's just such a beautiful song. It gets to me every single time Bono says, "For the Reverend Martin Luther King... sing!"

I'm such a sap.

I begin to hope that I may be able to hand this thing in on Monday without being embarassed by it. It's a fragile hope, but there it is. Despite the fact that Chris is on call tomorrow, so I'll have the kibbles all to myself, and then Monday I have Env 8:30-10, ADR 1-4, and the article is due at 4:30. So basically all I have is tomorrow night after the boys are in bed to finish it up, and then Monday 10-1 to catch any last-minute mistakes.

So. Sleep.

oh dear

Disaster looming.

Monday I have Environmental History 8:30-10:00, then time to be on campus and do my last-minute Law Review checks, ADR 1:00-4:00, then article due 4:30.

The boys have been sick, and Chris is on call today, but everything was still getting done because, as per usual, balancing kids & work/school => needing to plan ahead for disasters. I can't count the number of times I've scheduled writing/study/other prep time the day something is due only to have one of the kids come down with something at exactly the wrong time. Not a problem; I may not get the time to triple-check that every i is dotted and every t is crossed, but since I plan waaay ahead, things still get done.

However. Justin is now much better, which means that I will get no time to do anything Review-related today. That's not the problem; budgeting time tonight & tomorrow between Env and ADR, I could still be OK.

But now Daniel is very sick. If he stays like this, he won't be able to go to school on Monday. And his one uber-reliable babysitter Laine has company, so she can't take him, and our other babysitter Debbie has other kids who can't be exposed to whatever he's got. And Chris needs to be at work. So if Daniel doesn't get better...

Skip EnvLaw. No problem.

No prep time at school for Review. Problem: there's stuff I need to check in the library, because I can't bring it home. And I can't drag him to campus to sit in a corner and hack for a couple of hours while I check everything.

No ADR. Problem: we're doing Mediation, which is the whole reason I took ADR in the first place, and I had committed to roleplaying a mediator and prepped for it bigtime, and nobody else has prepped for it.

ARGG!!!

Damn. Apparently, there were northern lights in Ottawa just now. I totally missed the show.

Doh. I've only ever seen northern lights once, in 1984 in Chicoutimi, and I was told it was a rather lame display. Although I thought it was pretty neat.

Bummer.

In other news, the boys are now in bed, I exercised remarkable self-restraint all day in not giving Justin back to the pack of feral cats and dogs who must have raised him, I'm done with the editing and citation portion of my work and am now in the home stretch of dotting i's and crossing t's, Laine can take Daniel tomorrow after all, and I hope to get to bed in time to sleep more tonight than the miserable 3 hours I got yesterday.

Today's English minute is brought to you by the new word "Hortatory," meaning 'urging, encouraging, or strongly advising a course of action to somebody.' Look it up if you don't believe me.

Today's French minute is brought to you by BabelFish, a free online French translation service that introduced me to the fact that one translation for a somewhat crude English term for male genitalia translates as "robinet". Which, oddly, translates back to English as "tap" - as in, a faucet.

::pause for immediate L&O-fan giggly moment at the thought of poor ADA Paul um, Faucet being stuck with such an ignominous name::

So then [livejournal.com profile] animaltalker asked if any other L&O names translated oddly. So I C&P'd the list of all L&O names from [livejournal.com profile] thursday100plus's Info Page, and came up with this:

Loi Et Ordre )

(The answer is no, not really, barring one or two minor giggles.)

so much left to do )
