So, this article says that in the first edition of Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince, when the kids get the results of their end-of-year exams at the end of the summer, Hermione gets one Exceeds Expectations and 10 Outstanding grades in her exams. Even though Order of the Phoenix had said she only took ten subjects. Sharp-eyed readers picked up on this error right away and it was corrected in subsequent editions.
I didn't catch it. But I did get the hardcover edition when it came out, even though I hate hardbacks, and then a few weeks ago I got the softcover edition so I could get rid of the hardcover. And this morning I was re-reading it (hey, it's for Daniel's English work, I swear ::ahem::) and I remember frowning slightly as I got to the part where Hermione sees that she got 1 Exceeds Expectations and 9 Outstandings. Hm. Odd. Why did I think she had more? Oh well, read on.
And then a few hours later, the link to the above article shows up on a discussion group I'm on.
Readers spot Harry Potter error
Heh, serendipity. - There's been a lot of that lately. The other day I was grumbling because I got an activity book for free but the text book it comes with costs about $30, and all the copies at the library are either lost or out, and I don't want to shell out that much money for a book without even seeing it. The next day I'm at my friend Marie's house and she's talking about doing history with her boys and she starts praising this one textbook she bought a while ago, because it's fun, and easy for kids to read and understand, and really brings history to life, etc etc - and guess what book it is.
Yeah, OK, $30 is a good price :) - There was something else serendipitous lately, but I can't remember what it was.
- Scully and Mulder. Theirloveissogeeky.
- Chris finally finished reading The Philosopher's Stone to the boys. He's been reading it as a bedtime story for about six months. At this rate, they'll be done Goblet of Fire around the time Justin gets to high school ;)
- I do start classes tomorrow. Evidence, 5pm-7pm. I'm all excited.
- Our babysitter's ex is a cowardly, miserable bastard, and should be slowly castrated with a toothbrush. Just sayin'.
- Justin had a good second day of school, even though there was a lot of scolding. Not just for him, but for most of the class. Daniel, the voice of experience, informs Justin that this is perfectly normal at the beginning of grade 1.
- My e-mail is buggered. I can only access it from the kids' computer. Boo.
