- Jebus H, new rule in our house: bedtime Monday nights is 8PM sharp. 2AM? Not acceptable.
Tuesday's my 3-hour CivLib and 2-hour Evidence classes, and whoa, that was painful with the extreme sleepiness I was feeling. I had to resort to self-harm to stay awake, seriously. Kept pinching my inner arms, and was so incredibly out of it that all I could think was, "Ow. ow. don't sleep. ow. stay awake. ow." - Really wanted to slap a couple of people in CivLib, too. Yes, Mr. Angry Young Idealist-Turned-Disillusioned-Cynic, you know who you are.
For future reference: you are taking Civil Liberties. At OttawaGranola InstituteUniversity. It is being taught by a professor whose credits include writing "Virtual Justice: Systemic Racism and the Canadian Legal Profession," and positions with the Ontario Human Rights Commission, the Ontario Race Relations Directorate, and the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund. She teaches CivLib as "Civil Liberties in the Post-911 Era," and we all knew that when we signed up.
I think our collective granola-lefty credentials/leanings could probably stun Pat Buchanan at fifty paces. So what's with the uber-bitter obsessive pointing out the Jingoistic Evil that is Bush and All Things American, and the hypocrisy of racial profiling, and the sorry state of civil liberties in Canada and in general in the sad, bad, post-911 world? More importantly, who are you talking to?! Are we seriously having a pissing contest over My radical chic brings all the boys to the yard, damn right, it's better than yours?
Chill, sweetie. You're making me want to vote Republican. I am not amused. - Also, Mr. I Hate Ottawa: showing up two hours into a three hour class is acceptable, if you have an unavoidable emergency or scheduling problem that you already told the prof about. As long as you are careful to tiptoe in with an apologetic look towards the prof (and anybody in the class who happens to look at you), then take your place in the most unobtrusive spot in the room and proceed to keep your mouth shut and your expression one of intense interest.
No, it is not acceptable to put up your hand five minutes after your entry and start asking detailed questions/regaling us all with your deep thoughts about the topic at hand, because you just might make some really good points that would be terribly impressive if they hadn't already been thoroughly covered during the two hours of your absence. - Yeah, I think that about covers it. 'nighty-night, everybody :)
