ciroccojJust came back from the Supreme Court, where I got to sit in one of the overflow rooms and watch people speaking for the Attorneys-General for Quebec and Alberta, and the Focus on the Family Association. I believe they were all against gay marriage, although it took me a while to figure it out from the Quebec dude and I'm still not sure I did.
Memo to myself: you are bilingual in regular French and English, but not in French legalese. Next time you are given the option of a translating device, take it. Parce que tu etais complètement moins indice aujourd'hui. *
Also found out that Peter Hogg, The Guy when it comes to Canadian Constitutional stuff, spoke yesterday on behalf of the Attorney-General of Canada. I.e., for the proposal to legalize same-sex marriage. Way cool. He's constantly referred to in Constitutional cases - it's like if you can argue that Professor Hogg agrees with you, you score big time pointage.
Must work on Drafting. Today's adventure consists of translating this into English:
A person is entitled to have his name entered in the register if that person either is immediately prior to the commencement of this Act registered as a pharmacist under the provisions of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act; or is the holder of a pharmaceutical diploma recognized by the Board as furnishing sufficient guarantee of the possession of the requisite academic knowledge of pharmacy, has worked after obtaining such diploma in full time employment under the supervision of a registered pharmacist for not less than 12 months in such capacity and such circumstances as to satisfy the Board that he or she has acquired sufficient knowledge and skill for the efficient practice of pharmacy and has passed an examination held by an examiner appointed by the Board for the purpose of testing his knowledge of such aspects of theoretical, practical and forensic pharmacy as the Board may decide to make the subject of the examination.
