Just realized it's been five days, no update. Probably because nothing of significant note has happened.

Chris went back to work, doing Eating Disorders back at the Children's Hospital. He's pretty jazzed about it - nice place to work, interesting subject, nice coworkers.

Went to yet another shrink yesterday. He seemed somewhat less of a loon than the last two, although he did ask some rather non-sequitur-like questions ("Any bedwetting as a child?" "Any promiscuity as a teenager?" "Tell me about your dreams") that kind of put me off. They just seemed so... TV-shrink-cliched. And he came to the stunning conclusion that my "lack of a steady paternal role model in childhood has led to my difficulties with intimacy as an adult".

Well, DUH, I could've told him that by the time I was about 15.

Anyway, I'll give it a try, even though for the life of me I can't really understand why dwelling on real or perceived childhood trauma is supposed to magically clear away adult difficulties. I understand the purpose of it if you're repressing or if you suffered severe abuse, but... beyond a certain point, don't you kind of have to accept that, eg "Dad wasn't the best parent in the world, he really screwed up, I should try to avoid getting involved with people who remind me of him" and move on with your life?

Whatever. I will make an effort. Although if the guy starts discussing toilet training, I'm outta there.

Made myself extremely geeky little "character guides" to paste into the backs of my books, so that when I lend them to my mom to read, she won't be confused as to who's who. She watches L&O enough to know most of the characters and she enjoyed reading the Aftershocks (I printed them out in novel-form (321 pages!). However, I found out after she'd read them that when she read 'Rey Curtis' she was actually picturing Max Greevey. Which really made me wonder what she thought was going on when she was reading Lennie's POV and Lennie referred to Rey as "junior" or his "rookie" partner. She was pretty whacked out on anti-nauseants from her cancer treatments at the time, but still. Don't want that to happen again. So now I've provided her with handy-dandy little pictures of each of the characters. I'm so very, very nerdy.
