Re. a case where a (male) student wanted to attend his (Catholic school) prom with his (male) boyfriend, was told he couldn't, and sued the school board: "R. MacKinnon J granted the injunction restraining the defendants from preventing his attendance at the prom with his boyfriend."

Wha?

Surely there's an easier way to write this.

It's because it's a Catholic school. Catholic schools never give on that shit.

That last sentence makes no sense:

granted the injunction restraining the defendants from preventing his attendance

Is that clear to you?

It makes sense to me, but at least I've heard of the case before. Without that background it would be much harder to interpret.

Case where a male student was not permitted to attend his prom with his boyfriend and sued the school board. MacKinnon granted the injunction preventing the defendants from blocking his attendance.

hrm.
