"We need to see a healer," Hermione said.

"What reason?"

"Our friend is a teapot."

"Go into the first room on right. Someone will be with you shortly."

Still slowly wending my way through my CivLib paper, now at the "Evaluation" section and whoo boy, I can't wait to send my rough draft to my prof just to feel like I'm not wading off into a vast uncharted swamp.

However, I've discovered many wondrous things. For one, our Anti-Terrorism Act is up for renewal. For another, one section of it just got struck down as unconstitutional very recently. The defendant in the case where that happened went to Sir Wilfrid Laurier high school in Ottawa. His dad's name was Mahboob. That's gotta hurt.

Also, for the first 4 years of its operation, the Important Reports By Important Government Reporters Concerning "Investigative Hearings and Recognizance with Conditions" and "Use of Arrests Without Warrant" had the following statistics to report: 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0. 0.

In tennis terms, that's a whole lotta love.

Colour Key:
  • Section not yet written
  • Section written but only in very rough shape
  • Section editted, not quite ready to print
  • Section ready to print

  • Introduction

  • Part A: Background
    • Internment of Japanese Canadians during World War II, 1942
    • Invoking the War Measures Act against the FLQ during the October Crisis, 1970
    • Anti-Terrorism Act, enacted 2001

  • Part B: What happened
    • Listing and description of civil rights abrogated during each crisis
    • Justifications for the abrogations cited at the time

  • Part C: Evaluation
    • Effects on people targetted by each measure
    • Justification after the fact (i.e. was the threat real)
    • Public opinion then and now

  • Part D: Lessons Learned
    • Japanese Interment v. FLQ Crisis: comparison
    • Anti-Terrorism Act: anything learned from the first two incidents?
    • Will we need to apologize to Muslim Canadians at some point? Do the measures keep us safer?

To Do:
  1. Organize all sections
  2. Colour code all

  3. Fill in all green
  4. Turn at least two sections to blue
  5. Turn rest to blue
  6. Send to prof
  7. Footnotes
  8. Bibliography
  9. Editing blue to black
  10. Penultimate draft
  11. McGill footnotes & bibliography
  12. Final draft, hopefully with prof's suggestions
  13. Proofread
  14. Hand in

Hey! Stocking stuffers for kiddies! Please tell me these are gag gifts!

Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed! by Katharine DeBrecht
"This full-color illustrated book is a fun way for parents to teach young children the valuable lessons of conservatism. Written in simple text, readers can follow along with Tommy and Lou as they open a lemonade stand to earn money for a swing set. But when liberals start demanding that Tommy and Lou pay half their money in taxes, take down their picture of Jesus, and serve broccoli with every glass of lemonade, the young brothers experience the downside to living in Liberaland."

Why Mommy Is A Democrat by Jeremy Zilber
"Democrats make sure we all share our toys, just like Mommy does. Democrats make sure we are always safe, just like Mommy does. Democrats make sure children can go to school, just like Mommy does."

The Democrat one...

...maybe. The Liberals Under the Bed? Nope, real. World Net Daily is a right wing site and I've heard of this Melanie Morgan character, none of it good.

You know, just when I think we can't get any stupider as a species, somehow we go and show that yes, we most defintely can.

With the nation’s libraries and classrooms filled with overtly liberal children’s books advocating everything from gay marriage to marijuana use, kids everywhere are being deluged with left-wing propaganda.

Okay, I can understand that they object to the gay penguin book because they're bigoted fuckwits, but children's books promoting marijuana use? I sure missed the boat on that one ...

Christ on a stick, these are both horrifying.

Oy.

And, of course, all of those left-wing books are being FORCED on our children! B/c they're there! And the kids can read them! AAHHHHHHH!!!!!!

There are no words. If those are real books, there are NO WORDS.

I had a terrible dream about you last night. I dreamed you were killed in a bus crash, and you had a daughter named Alice who died with you. And I had a chance to stop it from happening or maybe to prove it didn't happen? But I kept failing?

I don't know. Bad dream, though.

Yeah, apparently they are. And I have a lot of words. Just none really fit to say around young children.

Then again, those books aren't really fit to have around young children, are they?

Gah! That's disturbing. I hate those. I had one in which Justin - never mind, I don't even want to type it. I didn't want to go back to sleep for a long, long time.

And speaking of dreams involving my family, [livejournal.com profile] jenniferjames once dreamed Justin had come to visit her. Apparently started tearing up her place and making her wonder when he was going to go home. Damn, but that's realistic, was all I had to say to that one :D :D :D

*snortgiggle*

Check out the not-subtle cover of this book:
Every Man a Hero, Every Woman a Coach.

The book promises to "rescue your wife from feminist bondage." I'd really, really like to read their section on sex. Why do I think it reads, "Lie back and think of England America"?

Aw, man! But feminist bondage is so much fun! All those hot pink handcuffs and blindfolds that say "Grrl Power" and...

Ah. Um. That was Too Much Information, wasn't it?

Naw! Just *enough* information.

Now, where can I buy those handcuffs...?

What is Whistleblower magazine? It's mentioned in both the awful kids' books and now this one you linked to as well. It must be disturbing!

I fear going online to see if we've got a Canadian version. Much fear. Think I'll just live in my little bubble-world of denial instead :)
