  • From [livejournal.com profile] neonnurse: OK kids, who can tell us why the folks at NASA picked the Sombrero Galaxy as their Picture of the Day?

Today is May 5th, Cinco De Mayo, a day to celebrate Mexican pride. It's kind of like a Mexican St. Patrick's Day ;)

  • Incidentally, one of the things I often find startling when I'm in the States is how frequently I hear Spanish spoken around me. In Ottawa? Notsomuch. It's very cool.

  • And, to follow the Hispanic theme of this post, what do you call an idealist who works at a laundromat?
    Don Quixote de La Plancha.

::sigh:: They didn't know what Cinco De Mayo was here. I ate some chips and salsa, but the salsa tasted like curry, so it might not count. They can't even recognize US/European bastardized versions of Mexican food. Earlier in the week, I told Ali I was going to make burritos for us, and he said, "what's a burrito?" Mexican cooking done by actual Mexicans is one of the things I miss most over here.

Also, nerd-out squared, I read the NASA PoD every day and was snorting in dorky pleasure at their choice for yesterday.

On a related note, I seem to recall W. insisting, at some point, that Cinco De Mayo was on May 6.
