These Are a Few Of My Favourite Things

The Canada Geese are almost done flying past Ottawa. I wonder if anybody south of the border is calling them Freedom Geese now, what with Canada having some sort of nation non grata status right now.
Not that I like it when the geese fly south (I much prefer hearing them coming back), but it is kind of cool how they usher in the fall. And fall does have its distinct charm, especially in the Gatineaus. There are plenty of fairly easy hill trails where, at the summit, as far as the eye can see, flame-coloured forests spread out below you. Must take Daniel and Justin out there, maybe next weekend.

Another favourite thing right now: although the whole hospitalization thing was a bit of a pain, at least I've achieved some sort of favoured patient status with GyneGuy. At my last appointment, as he scanned over my hospital record, he made a comment like, "Well. You certainly put the fear of god into everybody, didn't you?" I guess four units of blood and "unstable vital signs" is a bad thing, overall.
In any case, I no longer have to wait to see him. I call, tell the receptionist I need to come in, tell her my name, and poof! Instant appointment. Waiting list? Nae more.
I'm also quite glad my GyneGuy is who he is. When he set out my options, he was pretty much favouring a total hysterectomy. I started to feel anxious, since Chris also thought I should have one and I really, really didn't want to go there and didn't want to have to argue with two doctors armed with nothing more than a plaintive "But I don't want to!!"
So I rather tentatively said, "Uh... I'm not sure... I mean, I've read there's all sorts of side effects and... uh..."
"Oh, there's no physical side effects. Your ovaries are left intact, so hormonally you're fine, and really, most women who have them tell me later they wish they'd done it years ago-" and at this point my heart is sinking because damn it, I don't want to, "But if you're not emotionally ready for that, it's devastating, of course. So, let's look at other options."
I felt such overwhelming relief. Funny how such a simple affirmation that feelings are valid in and of themselves could be so very, very reassuring.

And now, because I'm totally corny, here are the lyrics to
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
I have no idea why I love that saccharine little song so much, but I do.

Later Edit: Oh, and another very important favourite thing: the Tories appear to be trailing fairly nicely in the polls. The Liberals look poised to win a majority. I'd prefer it if it was the NDP, but at this point anything is better than the Tories.
Now, if we can just keep this trend until election day, I'll be happy.
