May. 13th, 2009 11:15 pmUm. OK... I just typed an entire post and then it disappeared completely. wtf?
- Chris' dad came and stayed for the weekend. Due to scheduling foulup, he and Chris spent nine hours in the car. Not all at once; driving the kids to and from Scout/Cub camp. Great time to chat and catchup and all, but still. Nine hours. Yowch.
- Still a great visit. We'd all love to see more of him :) :) :)
- Star Trek movie? Went to see it with
ninja_kat and LOVED IT. Will definitely see it again. Probably would've disemboweled myself in disgust if I was a canon-oriented Trekkie. Good thing I'm not. - Did you know the Ottawa Tulip Festival is about more than just tulips? I've lived here since I was eight, and hadn't a clue!
- One of Justin's fish just died. As in, swimming perfectly fine one moment, utterly dead five minutes later. He's crushed.
- Not a good day for Justin. Made the executive decision to not teach him French any more, until after learning disability testing. It's just too much heartbreaking effort for almost no return whatsoever. After three years, he still forgets that you don't pronounce the final 's' or 't' in most words. For an English person, that would be like still struggling with the concept of 'sh' making the 'sh' sounds instead of 's' and 'h'. And last week he couldn't tell me the meaning of the word 'femme.'
- Had a new second soprano at today's choir rehearsal. Unbeknownst to her, we were singing exclusively songs we've performed about a million-jillion times already. She was quite intimidated; she thought we were all perfect sight-readers, even the sopranos!
AHahahahahahahahahaha
Disabused her of that notion. - Apparently we were on the list to be tested for our red stripes, until the black belts made an executive decision to postpone that till next month. One of them told me, "Yeah, I was correcting your pattern last week and I thought, 'Really? You think you're ready to test?'"
I almost replied, "Really? I thought my pattern was great! It's the other 90% of the stuff I'm supposed to know that I have zero clue about!" - Still, this means we're going to be tested next month. ::gulp::
- Will probably compete in the tournament we're hosting in June. I suspect my lj entry for that day will be much like Daniel's report to his class the first time he competed: "Well, I did my best, but I was still crushed like a bug."
- A positive attitude is 90% of winning.
- A snarky attitude is 90% of having fun.

Date: 2009-05-14 03:41 am (UTC)Now, I have Cerebral Palsy, and I know they would have made an accommodation for me, but I had never had one to that point and decided I was not going to start.
I'm still proud of my red stripe, and I have almost all the boards I broke at testings.

Date: 2009-05-20 03:58 am (UTC)Yeah we had to do a board break for every test. I had no idea this wasn't the case everywhere. Lucky you! Oh the other hand, doing it every test got us used to it, that's for sure, and the break was different for every level, (side kick break for yellow, hook kick for green, etc).
Anyway, much luck on your test!
