Quick question: can anybody help me with the names of the regular casts of L&O:SVU and L&O:CI? I don't watch either show, and I'm trying to get a full list of the cast.

Oh - another request for help, this one specifically for heathers, or anybody who knows about cooking.

I've made bagels a few times now, and something always puzzles me. I let the dough rise, punch it down, form the bagels, let it rise again, then put the bagels into boiling water with sugar in it. The recipe says I have to handle the bagels carefully or they will "collapse". And they do, sometimes. Rather spectacularly. As I'm taking them out of the boiling water, they either remain fluffy or just... shrivel. Totally.

And I have no idea why. The ones that shrivel are sometimes big, sometimes small, sometimes they've gone in to the water first of their batch, sometimes last, sometimes they shrivel after being handled with kid gloves, sometimes they don't, sometimes I can bloody well drop them on the counter and they'll stay fluffy...

I can't figure it out. And I'd really like to know. Any ideas?

And you know what? I'm often amazed at how quickly a wonderful day with the kids can turn into an absolute nightmare. But it's almost equally amazing when a day starts out the pits, and turns out pretty nice. We started with a heck of a lot of whining and screaming and stomping, for about an hour, and now... we've made cornbread, washed some dishes, sorted laundry, listened to classical music, played with the Marbleworks... I almost feel reluctant to put him down for his nap.

Almost.

However, since I'm not quite deluded enough to believe this will last, I gotta go put him down before this lovely, lovely time ends rather abruptly.

Sounds like overproofing. If the dough proofs too long it will collapse on itself.

Check the IMDB for the complete SVU cast list. I'm sure they have an equally good list for CI. I would direct you to TVtome.com but it seems to be acting funny right now. Give it a try and search for the shows, they have a great episode list/guide and cast listings.

This is probably horribly ignorant of me, but what's 'proofing'?

And thanks for the IMdb idea. I went to TVTOME and got some names, but the SVU site had no character names, just actors.

Proofing is when you let the dough rise. =) If it rises farther than the gluten strands can stand they break and the dough collapses because the air that was trapped between the gluten strands is released.

Judith Light played Alex's boss for a while (I think the character's name was Elizabeth Donnelly), as did the guy who played Paul Koppell in "House Counsel" on the Mothership.

The characters of Monique Jeffries and Brian Cassidy were both gone before I started watching, and I have no idea who the actors were.

CI:
Det. Robert (Bobby) Goren - Vincent D'Onofrio
Det. Alex Eames - Kathryn Erbe
Capt. James Deakins - Jamey Sheridan
ADA Ron Carver - Courtney B. Vance

If they need an ME on CI, it's usually either Rodgers or a no-name one-shot person.

Thanks! I just updated the grammar page on THS to reflect that, as I feel kind of bad I didn't have Warner on there. Casey's now on there, too. ::sigh:: It looks weird with another name beside Alex's. Guess she's really gone, huh?

Only thing that might be worth mentioning is Abbie Carmichael being on SVU (Season 1) as well as the entire "Others" list from the Mothership have all been on SVU more than once. In fact, Rodgers was the ME for most of season 1 until they got Warner.

Also Ken Briscoe (Lenny's nephew) was a rookie in SVU during the first season. He was a bit player but he was in more than one episode.
