Quick! Without looking any of these up, see if you can name one major historical event that happened on each of these dates, which are in no particular order. And yes, it's hugely skewed towards European/North American history. That's cause these are all from my own history-geek knowledge, and I'm hugely skewed towards European/North American.

1963 - I'm so going to have the year wrong, but... Kennedy assasination?
1973 - Nixon resignation? (That's a complete guess).

1961 - um... setting up the space program: Kennedy's "fly men to the moon in this decade" speech to the joint session of congress?
1492 - "Back in 1492 (Christopher Columbus) Sailed across the ocean blue (Christopher Columbus)" (old beginners piano piece)...

1968 - Assassination of MLK, Assassination of Bobby Kennedy, the 68 Convention in Chicago, Students go nuts all over Europe...
Obviously I'm bad on anything before 1000, and not that great on anything before the 1860s or so... And even then I'm not entirely certain of a lot of them...

1776 - the Declaration of Independence
1912 - Woodrow Wilson becomes president after the Republican vote is split between Taft, the incumbent, and Teddy Roosevelt, the still highly popular former president running on a third party ticket.
1865 - the American Civil War ends; Lincoln is assasinated
1917 - the Russian Revolution(s)
1215 - High Middle Ages, but I can't say nearer than that.
1939 - Germany invades Poland, I think. WWII kicks off, anyway.
1066 - Battle of Hastings
622 - I think this is around Bede's time, but can't say any nearer
1914 - WWI kicks off with
a bangan assassination1918 - WWI ends; a global flu pandemic kills more people than the war did
1929 - the stock market crashes, kicking off the Great Depression
79 - Pfft. Something with the Romans?
1347 - ... Grantian codifies canon law? No clue, really.
2001 - I think something happened in September...
1969 - Y'know, I don't remember anything specific for 69. Was it the year of the moon walk?
1861 - Lincoln inauguration; shots at Ft. Sumter; southern states secede; Civil War
1963 - JFK assassinated; the March on Washington
1973 - Watergate, I think. And my older sister was born. And the Americans leave Saigon, maybe.
800 - Charlemagne coronated as the Holy Roman Emperor
1961 - Sputnik, I think. And possibly Gagarin going into space. John Glenn wasn't until 62, if I recall correctly. I think this was also the summer of the Freedom Riders.
1492 - the Reconquista ends; as part of the celebrations, the Catholic Monarchs give Columbus money to sail across the ocean blue and bring back goodies
410 - Rome falls?
1968 - RFK and MLK assassinated;I think Woodstock, maybe.
