I was thinking Russian Revolution for 1917, but JFK's birth works too :)

And that's neat, I wasn't sure anybody would say Roe v. Wade for 1973. I was thinking of that or the Watergate scandal.

Technically, the US wasn't formed until the Constitution, which is 1789. The Declaration was a statement of principles, and there was a war and a Confederation before there was a US. </pedant>
